French Oil Mill Machinery Co. Hosts Manufacturing Forum
French Oil Mill Machinery Company Chairman of the Board & CEO, Daniel P. French, hosted local manufacturers at the Piqua Country Club on Thursday, September 10, 2015, to hear public policy updates from Ohio Manufacturer’s Association (OMA) staff. French has served as an OMA Board Member since 2005.
OMA president, Eric Burkland, Managing Director, Public Policy Services, Ryan Augsburger, and Director Public Policy Services, Rob Brundrett covered a range of policy topics, including the three issues that will be put before voters on the November General Election ballot. State Representative Kyle Koehler also shared his concerns on Issue 3 and urged responsible voters to vote ‘No’ on this issue.
As rationale for hosting the gathering, French commented, “As manufacturers and citizens, we can lose more money in one day in Washington or Columbus, than we can make all year working hard at home in our companies. We need to join together to stay alert and participate in what our political leaders are doing to or for us.”
French also quoted the great writer and philosopher, Plato, “The penalty that good men pay for not being interested in politics is to be governed by men worse than themselves.”
Government plays a significant role in determining manufacturers’ cost of doing business. All along the manufacturing continuum – from transportation of raw materials to manufacturing design and production, to delivery of finished product – various policies, rules and regulations govern manufacturing activities and impact operating costs. Member-driven and member-focused OMA supports a skilled and experienced Public Policy Services staff who focus solely on activities related to legislation and regulations that can impact our manufacturing businesses, a Workers’ Compensation staff that helps organizations with case management and workers’ comp cost-containment strategies and a variety of information services to keep manufacturers current on policies and issues that affect the bottom line.
