Electrical and Mechanical Assembler/Machine Builder

Builds and assembles difficult and diversified components and machinery, such as mechanical screw presses, hydraulic press systems, or oilseed preparation equipment where procedures and methods are prescribed by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Layout and plan assemblies or sub-assemblies according to knowledge of unit being assembled or following blueprints. May select materials and parts.
  • The assembly of equipment may require adjustment, fitting, or aligning due to required close tolerance and precision fits.
  • Uses precision measuring instruments to determine proper fit.
  • Operates drill presses or other equipment to assist in assembly operation.
  • Ability to identify issues and correct problems with electrical components.
  • May test equipment for functionality prior to shipment.
  • May disassemble machinery for rebuilding or shipping.
  • Ships machinery or parts following domestic or foreign procedures.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, customers or others to resolve assembly problems.
  • Electrical wiring and troubleshooting from electrical schematics a plus.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferably from a vocational school; or one to three years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Use and care of a wide variety of precision measuring instruments.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to speak/read/write in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, engineering blueprints, sketches, and job layouts. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to use handbook equations and to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Fork Truck license is recommended.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

TRAVEL: The employee may go to customer and supplier locations.
